Job Overview

The Sheraton Park City is seeking an experienced Hotel Controller to join our Accounting team!

POSITION PURPOSE

Plan, direct, and manage the provision of accurate, timely, and objective financial data from which informed management decisions can be made.  Recommend remedial action when and where necessary.  Safeguard owner assets by creating and maintaining sound internal control systems.  Hire the most professional, service-oriented, dedicated highly skilled, trained staff available.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Supervise the finance department, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, auditing, general accounting, and cashiers.
  • Support General Manager and hotel financial goals by direct preparation of daily revenue reports, expense forecasts, month end reports and month end variance explanations.
  • Ensure compliance with Driftwood Hospitality Management, LLC and brand policies and procedures and all applicable laws.
  • Negotiate and monitor contracts with hotel’s vendors.
  • Oversee and insure the accurate collection/reporting of state sales taxes.
  • Advise management of desirable operational adjustments due to tax code revisions.
  • Arrange for audits of hotel’s accounts.
  • Prepare reports required by Driftwood Hospitality Management, LLC and regulatory agencies.
  • Develop short- and long-term control processes for the hotel that support overall Driftwood objectives.
  • Establish and maintain a proactive human resources function to ensure associate motivation, training, and development, and ensure compliance with wage and benefit regulations and administration.
  • Monitor and correct the performance of the hotel to meet Driftwood accounting/audit guidelines through internal audits, processes, and procedures.

 

Other:

Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be established from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position.  Employees with irregular attendance will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel.  In addition, attendance at all scheduled training sessions and meetings is required.

Upon employment, all employees are required to fully comply with Driftwood Hospitality Management, LLC rules and regulations for the safe and effective operation of the hotel’s facilities.  Employees who violate hotel rules and regulations will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

  • Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace.
  • Must be able to read and write to facilitate the communication process.
  • Requires good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Most tasks are performed in a team environment with the employee acting as a team leader.  There is minimal direct supervision.
  • Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Must be able to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Must be able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups to managers, clients, customers, and ownership.
  • Must be able to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and other applicable computer systems.  Budgetary analysis capabilities required.
  • Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state and local laws governing equal employment opportunity and civil rights, occupational safety and health, wage and hour issues, and labor relations, including, but not limited to the following statutes and their comparable state and local laws (where applicable): Title VII, ADEA, Equal Pay Act, Pregnancy Discrimination Act, FLSA, ADA, OSHA, FMLA, and NLRA.

 

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

Education

High school or equivalent education required.  Bachelor’s Degree and master’s degree in Accounting or related area preferred.

Experience

Four to six years related experience, including at least four years of supervisory experience.
